Festive Decorations for the Easter Table

          Germany is rich on Easter customs and traditional ways of decorating house and home. Many people cut Pussy willow or Forssisia branches to bring into the house. The latter, placed in water, will bloom at Easter. The former need to be put into an oven at low temperatures, this will cause the shells that cover the catkins to pop open and allow you to strip them off.   Easter Breakfast usually takes place at a festive, decorated table- perhaps a table cloth embroidered with Easter motives, flowers and always with colored eggs in various forms: as Easter nests, as Easter Palms in a rustic pitcher, disguised by various means as little bunnies, chicks or whatever the imagination inspires. Colors for dying eggs are very bright and intense; red, yellow, blue and green are all very deep and rich.

 

          According to the traditions of a region, there are yeast breads in various shapes and sizes which grace the breakfast table.

 

          Below is a pattern for a charming 'egg cup1 for children ( or your 'inner child') to craft:

Need

A sheet of green construction paper, fairly stiff

A sheet of construction paper in colors of your choice

Small piece of either white or yellow construction paper plus a bit of red

Pinking shears and Glue

Cut the Tulip twice from the color of your choice

Cut the base and stem and leafs from the greenpaper

Pink the upper edge of the base to simulate grass

Glue the stem of the tulip between the two blossom shapes

Cut the little chicken and glue to the base of tulip

Notch the base where indicated and connect to form circle, (curve strip CW from front to back)

Set colored egg into the circle.
