From Our Members
Congratulations go out to Marlys Waller, who, together with her
co-author Anne Pittman, is the recipient of the Heritage Award of the
National Dance Association of the American Association for Health,
Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Marlys and Anne have produced
the most widely used folk dance text book in the history of such
publications. 'Dance a While' was in its 10th edition in 2005 and
generations of dancers and dance teachers have grown up with this text.
The Award ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 20th from 7:15 AM
- 9:OOAM at the Mariott Ballroom 1 -3 in Indianapolis, IN.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch also to Lois Lynch, our president. Lois
was awarded the Lifetime Service Award by the Dayton Liederkranz-Turners.
Lois is not only the dance director of her dance group but also
secretary of the North-American Sängerbund.
On personal note, Bill and Lois also just celebrated their 53rd
wedding anniversary, all our best wishes to you both.

Roseanne and Ron Gehauf celebrated 'Weiber Fasnacht' with their
group in Denver, CO. Roseanne dressed Ron as an oriental belly dancer,
complete with diaphanous floral skirt, blue metallic top, flowing long
hair and a veil. For those who don't know Ron, he has a very impressive
and well groomed handlebar moustache. He must have been a very glamorous
sight.

John Himmelheber reports that his group has gone into recess
until Feb. 2010 to resume practice again for their spring performance.
John also was chosen to have a poem included in a volume of poetry to be
published by the Eber-Wein Publishing Co. Shrewsbury, PA.
His poem is called:

'Sonnet
on Life in A Day':
|
|
A birth is like
the early morn
The sun will
rise and light the sky.
O1 mother's
womb, a babe is born.
A cock does
crow, a babe's first cry.
Buds are blooms.
The child is grown.
As green leaves
enriched by the sun,
He will reap
what he has sown.
The path is
thorny, just sprinkled with fun.
Chimes at twelve
toll middle age.
Success or
failure may've been seen.
If either one,
he wants passage
To Heaven above,
called home serene.
The setting sun
will close a day.
What God doth
give, He taketh away.
