This issue of the "German Folk Dancer" takes the place of issue 2 of Vol.15, 2010.  Between March and April I had seven surgical procedures on one of my eyes and spent April and May flat on my stomach.  However, at the end of the year we will have made up all of the issues.

It is with great regret that we had to cancel our annual weekend workshop at Folklore Village, Dodgeville, Wl. Due to the fact that there were no hotel rooms available anywhere, our registration was too low to proceed with the event. Dodgeville usually is a very quite town and there never was a problem with lodging. So it came as a surprise that on the weekend of the 13-14-15th of Aug. the town expected a bicycle race attended by roughly 1500 participants.

News from Germany: In 2012 the DGV (deutsche Gesellschaft fur Volkstanz) and the Deutsche Trachtenverband ( German Costume Ass.) is planning a combined Bundestrachten und Volkstanzfest (Federal Costume and Folk Dance festival) in Altenburg, Thüringen. This event would replace the separate Bundes-volkstanzfest in the format of past festivals. Perhaps we should begin to plan now for our participation ?

Herbsttanzfest in Berlin (Fall Folk Dance Festival)

The Folklore dance group Berlin- Kopenick invites all enthusiastic folk dancers from far and near to the 37. folk dance festival in Berlin from the 17th to the 19th of Sept. 2010.

Two years ago over 250 folk dancers had come to Berlin for the 36th dance festival to meet each other, to dance, to sing and to celebrate. For many years this festival had been organized by the Reinickendorfer Tanzkreis under the direction of Volkhart Jahnert. Martin Strofer and his musicians will be responsible for the musical portion of the festival.

On Friday evening the festival will open with a varied program of all participating groups. On Saturday morning are scheduled to dance in the old town of Kopenick where the public will have an opportunity to participate. The high light of the festival is the grand dance afternoon - again the Sporthall of Schoneberg. Sunday before noon the groups will again dance with Helga Preuss and Annie Herman in the Old town of Kopenick. The crowning event will be the dancing of all the groups together on the Schlossplatz (the castle square).
